Two suspects have since been arrested in connection with the incident.
The unpleasant discovery was made by a 64-year-old male passerby, who reported the matter to the police after spotting the lifeless body of the young man on the roadside.
Police officers swiftly responded and transported the body to Mahalapye District Hospital, where the young man was certified dead on arrival by the doctors.
According to Mahalapye Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku, preliminary investigations led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male from the same ward as the deceased's, who later assisted the police in arresting a second suspect, a 28-year-old male from Ranokana Ward, also in Taupye.
Ranku said both suspects are currently in police custody as investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the death continue.
He said the duo will appear before the Mahalapye Magistrate's Court tomorrow to face a single count of murder.
“We are still finalising a few aspects of the investigation, but we have made significant progress,” Ranku said.
He pleaded with members of the public, especially young men whose fights always lead to fatalities, to learn to solve their disputes peacefully without being violent.
