The collision happened at the Gakuto turn-off around 2:45am when a VW Golf that was coming from the village and turning towards Metsimotlhabe direction, collided with the oncoming combi.
According to No.13 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae, preliminary investigations suggest that the 31-year-old driver of the VW Golf may have failed to clear the road properly before making the turn.
Another possibility is that the driver might have possibly misjudged the speed and distance of the approaching combi, which was heading towards Kopong, Lokae said.
“The combi driver, who was travelling alone at the time, sustained a fracture below his right knee and was rushed to Bokamoso Private Hospital, where he remains hospitalised,” he said.
Lokae further noted that the Golf had two occupants, the driver and a 27-year-old female passenger.
Fortunately, the police chief said, both of them escaped with minor injuries and were treated and discharged on the same day.
'Investigations into the matter are ongoing and we urge motorists to exercise extreme caution when approaching intersections and making turns to avoid such unfortunate incidents especially when during at night when is dark,' he said.
