This activation marked a major milestone, featuring an on-site breast health screening clinic held in partnership with Journey of Hope Botswana (JOHB), as a lead-up to the annual Mascom Batanani Walk taking place in August 9 in Francistown. Members of the public, sports participants, and the Palapye community had access to free breast screening services, comprising palpations and ultrasounds for both men and women. A total of 76 individuals were screened on the day being 52 women and 24 men. According to statistics supplied by Mascom, all the individuals underwent soft breast examinations, eight individuals were identified for further investigation and received instant ultrasounds on-site. Seven women and a man were referred for additional testing via mammogram, which was successfully conducted.
Speaking at the event, Mascom acting chief corporate affairs officer, Anno Tshipa said the meaningful initiative aligns with Mascom's long-standing commitment to Mobile Health, one of the six pillars of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy. “As Mascom, we are deeply invested in Batanani because it represents more than a walk — it is a channel through which we deliver tangible support and improve access people's lives and the communities. Mobile Health is one of our CSR pillars, and through Batanani Walk, we are contributing to national health equity,” she said. Tshipa explained that by bringing breast screenings directly to communities, Mascom help fast-track care, shorten waiting times, and take pressure off overstretched public health systems. This is our way of walking the talk literally and figuratively.
As momentum builds towards the main walk in Francistown, Mascom is announced that the next activation will take place on July 26 in Letlhakane at Teemane Mall in partnership with Orapa General Manager's Walk and JOHB. Mascom said in a statement that the activation will once again offer free breast screenings to the people of Letlhakane and surrounding villages, continuing the mission to step in unity against breast cancer. The Mascom Batanani Walk 2025 will channel all proceeds to Journey of Hope Botswana, an organisation dedicated to breast cancer awareness, education, and support services across Botswana.
