Mahalapye Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku stated that the incident occured in the wee hours of July 19.

“At around 3am in the morning at Botswana Railways grounds, a Motswana man aged 33 years was stabbed with a sharp object,” Ranku said.

On details surrounding the incident, Ranku stated that the deceased got into an argument with a 35-year-old man from Herero Ward – believed to be the suspect in the matter – who stabbed the deceased.

Ranku further stated that the deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the station commander highlighted that the suspect has since been incarcerated and is awaiting arraignment before court. Ranku said that the suspect is likely to be charged with a single count of murder.

“The accused has been arrested and he will be arraigned today before the Mahalapye Magistrate's Court,” he said.

He further said preliminary investigations have not established the cause of the conflict between the two, which led to the demise of the other.

In an unrelated incident, the station commander stated that they are investigating another case in which a 48-year-old woman was raped on her way back home from a night out.

“Meanwhile, a ... woman from Basimane Ward, Pallaroad, who was on her way home from entertainment, met a man well-known to her, who dragged her to a nearby bush and raped her,” he said.

Despite the victim identifying the perpetrator, the commander indicated that the suspect remains at large whilst investigations continue.
