The event that brought together Botswana diaspora working in different fields locally commenced with Botswana National Anthem. In his address, the sixth President expressed his gratitude to Dr. Sanji Monageng, Botswana High Commissioner for having organised such an important gathering. He mentioned that Batswana should be cognisant that they are God's chosen people, urging them to stand firm in their faith despite challenges they face outside their own country. He mentioned that after taking oath as the President in 2024 under coalition government, they (diaspora) ought to be aware that the government is also facing challenges that include non-maintenance of schools and clinics constructed in their country years ago. 'We are in the process of rebuilding our own country and would not allow such entities to fall, the transformation journey will take us at least three years,' He stressed.

He assured diaspora his support, further reminding them their own fundamental human rights as enshrined in the Constitution. On behalf of diaspora, Ms. Joy Norman expressed hope that the signed Bi-National Commission (BNC) Agreement between Lesotho and Botswana will further look into allowing them permanent employment in Lesotho, in areas where they qualify. Furthermore, she called for decentralisation of Botswana government services so that like those in Botswana, they as well access services that include land. Lesotho and Botswana share historic ties of bilateral friendship borne out of common history and values. Both countries gained independence from Britain in 1966. These countries are on coalition government democratic rule.
