According to No.13 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, following a night out around the village’s entertainment spots.

“The victim and the suspect, along with other acquaintances, had been out partying together. They allegedly left the club around 4am and dropped each other off at their respective homes. However, whilst the woman was walking towards her residence, she noticed the suspect suddenly reappearing behind her. He approached her unexpectedly, grabbed her, dragged her into nearby bushes, and raped her before fleeing the scene,” Lokae said.

He added that the suspect is not a stranger to the victim. “She knows him by his first name and they often party together with mutual friends at local entertainment venues,” he said.

Police have since launched an investigation to locate and arrest the suspect, whose identity is known. “We are treating this matter with the utmost urgency and appeal to members of the public who may have any information that can assist in locating the suspect to come forward,” Lokae urged.

The police further emphasised the importance of safety, especially during night outings, and encouraged victims of gender-based violence to report incidents promptly.
