The suspects, aged 33 and 42, are both residents of the same village.
According to Ramotswa Police Station commander, Superintendent James Moikwathai, the two were found in possession of six large bags containing more than 200 parcels of the suspected illegal substance.
Police said the total weight of the suspected dagga is estimated to be around 140 kilogrammes, with a street value of approximately P200,000.
“The suspects remain in police custody as investigations into the matter continue.
Looking at the large quantity, they are likely to be charged with trafficking in narcotic drugs,' Moikwathai said.
He further revealed that preliminary investigations suggest the duo was headed to Gaborone, where they allegedly intended to supply the illegal substance.
'We suspect that Gaborone is their market, and it is possible they are part of a wider drug supply network,' he added.
Moikwathai highlighted the rising prevalence of drug use and trafficking within his policing area.
He stated law enforcement officers in the area continue to intercept large quantities of drugs, an indication that the drug trade is taking root in the country.
'Most of the suspects we arrest will be travelling from South Africa bringing drugs into Botswana,' he said.
'What worries us most is that these substances have now reached schools and are being consumed by minors.'
He made a plea to adults involved in drug trafficking to consider the long-term consequences of their actions on young people.
'We urge those involved in this illegal trade, especially elders, to stop targeting children. Our young ones are the future of this country and should be protected from such harmful activities,” Moikwathai said.
The police have vowed to intensify their anti-drug operations as part of ongoing efforts to curb the spread of narcotics in communities.
