The Thursday launch of the innovative offering in the competitive sector has been seen as a bold declaration by the bank on its commitment to innovation and supporting the growth of businesses in the digital economy.
Absa Bank Botswana Business banking director, Keletso Setimela, has described the card as a “game-changer”.
He added it goes beyond the traditional transactional tools saying that it marked the beginning of a transformative era in business financial services.
“This is not just the launch of a business card but it’s the start of a new chapter in how we empower businesses to manage spending, track expenses and drive sustainable growth,' Setimela said at the launch held at the bank’s headquarters.
“We are helping businesses transform and enhance their financial intelligence,' he added.
Setimela told stakeholders that with the world rapidly embracing digital solutions, Absa had to take a step. He noted that in the digital world, businesses need more than just a card, but they also need ‘smarter financial tools’.
According to the officials, the business card is designed to deliver exceptional banking experience with features made specifically for modern business needs.
The card introduces advanced features that Absa believes will significantly benefit its clients.
Head of Cards and Lending at Absa, John D’Souza, highlighted that while the card functions like a traditional credit card, it brings with it more forward-thinking functionalities.
He backed this up by highlighting some of the cutting-edge features such as a 12 month product warranty for technology purchases, travel insurance and international transactions.
Other features are fraud protection, expense tracking, and custom spending limits that give businesses unprecedented financial flexibility and control.
D’Souza further revealed that the card offers comprehensive travel coverage, including accident and medical insurance, ensuring that business travel comes with an added layer of safety and assurance.
He particularly noted the card's ability to support international purchases, explaining how it speeds up buying processes for companies that source products or services from outside Botswana.
Equally, D’Souza emphasised that the card delivers actual business value which supports entrepreneurs in their journey.
With cyber threats on the rise, he noted that Absa has placed strong emphasis on ensuring customer data and transactions remain protected.
He added that the card allows for smarter spending control through custom limits and detailed expense tracking, enabling businesses to monitor and manage their finances more precisely.
The bank's goal, according to managing director Keabetswe Pheko-Moshagane, is to protect financial assets and be a strategic partner in economic growth.
The launch shows Absa's commitment to being more than a traditional bank, it is evolving into a cutting-edge solution provider that actively supports company goals, officials added.
For entrepreneurs in Botswana this represents huge growth opportunities.
The Absa credit card tools enable businesses to gain better financial control and strategic insights which goes beyond traditional credit card issuance to empower businesses for success.
The future of business banking has arrived, and it shows great promise.
