In a statement last week the DCEC revealed that Moreri had been charged with abuse of public office, contrary to section 24A (1) and conflict of interest contrary to section 31 (1) (b) of the Corruption and Economic Crime Act (Cap. 08:05). The matter involves a tender worth P12.5 million.
As the matter stands, a letter from the PSP in Mmegi possession shows that Moreri’s suspension was lifted before he was arraigned on charges of corruption before Regional Magistrate South, Mareledi Dipate. In a letter dated April 24, 2025, Peloetletse lifted Moreri’s suspension and declared that the latter is advised to resume duty as Assistant Accountant General - System Support with immediate effect.
“Following your suspension from the Public Service pending administrative action, as was communicated in June 2024, I hereby inform you that the investigation into the allegations of misconduct has been concluded. The outcomes of the investigation pointed to possible acts of misconduct by yourself. However, upon verification of the issues you raised through your letter dated 5th February, 2025, I have come to the conclusion that your actions did not contravene any of the Statutes referred to in the Show Cause letter of January 13, 2025,” Peloetletse said in the letter as he cleared Moreri of any wrongdoing.
But in a shocking contradiction, the DCEC went for Moreri, and the latter is now the accused in the matter which is before Dipate. In the last week statement the corruption busting agency disclosed that its investigations revealed that between the period November 2023 and December 2023, Moreri, who is employed as Assistant Accountant General-Systems Support (Ministry of Finance) used his position as a public officer to obtain a valuable consideration for the benefit of his personal friend, through his company Nexim (Pty) Ltd.
“Moreri is accused of influencing the outcome of the appointment of Nexim (Pty) Ltd in respect of tender number MoF/POU/2/17/23-2,5, which was for the procurement of Oracle Supercluster (M7-8) Server Machines. The accused person is alleged to have not disclosed the nature of his interest, being his friendship with Nexim (Pty) Ltd Director, but rather participated in the proceedings of the Ministry of Finance in appointing Nexim (Pty) Ltd for the above mentioned tender,” DCEC revealed.
The agency added that subsequently, Nexim (Pty) Ltd was awarded a contract worth P12.5 million. The case will resume again on July 17. Mmapatsi Tshimologo of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) appeared for the State, while the accused person was represented by Onalethata Kambai of Kambai and Associates law firm.
