Jeff Matheatau laid to rest

People from different walks of life, including politicians and musicians, attended the funeral to pay their last respects to the departed superstar. Matheatau died on June 26 after a brief illness at his home. As a member of COSBOTS since 2014, he was a composer, songwriter, and performer of his music. His songs, such as Ngwanyana wa Ghanzi, Mapuo, Ko Moepong and others, will remain in the hearts of many.
Musician Vee Mampeezy described Matheatau as a loving person who was not jealous at all. He stated that he used to travel with the legendary artist, who always showed him brotherly love. Vee Mampeezy added that Matheatau was a kind-hearted person who was always helpful and had groomed and supported him well in the music industry.
Matheatau ‘s close friend, Thaba Thaba, said that he met the Kwasakwasa artist in 2010. He recalled that they stayed together and developed a transformative plan that contributed to the growth of both their careers. Thaba described Matheatau as a visionary who loved his family with all his heart.
Local artist groomed by Matheatau, Tumza said that they have been through a lot with the legendary Kwasakwasa star. He said that when he was working with Matheatau, he never suffered because he was well taken care of. Tumza stated that Matheatau was an inspiration to them, and his sudden departure is still a shock to them.
Meanwhile, legendary Congolese guitarist Kapenda Katuta said that their plan with the fallen Kwasakwasa star was to empower locals such as Christ Manto 7 and Slizer. He said that it is not easy to make it in the industry, but they tried their best to create employment in the music industry. “It's another social calling to start again and look after the young people who were working with Jeff so that they do not go back to the streets,” he added. Legendary artist Frank Lesokwane, popularly known as Franco, also expressed deep sorrow at the passing of his longtime friend.
During the well-attended memorial service, Councillor Lesego Kwamabala said that Matheatau had groomed and created opportunities for young artists, including backup singers, drummers, and guitarists. He thanked the Matheatau family for giving them a legendary star and allowing him to share it with the world. Jeff is survived by his children and wife. His legacy will live on through his music, which will continue to entertain and inspire Batswana.
