Khama blames Masisi, Magosi for causing forensic audit

Khama, who is coming for everyone who forced him into self-exile between 2021 and 2024, told Ntlo Ya Dikgosi recently that two main perpetrators of abuse of office in government brought about the situation that necessitated a forensic audit. In a question he posed to the Minister of State President, Khama said one perpetrator exited government on October 30, 2024, but the other continued in his position in government to abuse his office into 2025.
In response to Khama's questions, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs Ignatius Moswaane revealed that the forensic audit is not focused on any specific individuals.
'The findings of the forensic audit will inform next steps, if it is that they reveal evidence that requires potential legal or disciplinary actions that will then form the basis of requisite legal action but we must remember that the forensic audit will also evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of governance structures and practices within government ministries, departments, state-owned enterprises, and regulatory authorities. I reiterate this to emphasize the point that the aim is not for fault-finding against any specific person,' Moswaane emphasized.
Moswaane, who was responding to the questions on behalf of the Minister of State President, added that the audit will uncover instances of financial mismanagement, waste, fraud, or corruption and determine their magnitude. He said the audit will also identify responsible parties and provide evidence for potential legal or disciplinary actions.
Moswaane also told Ntlo Ya Dikgosi that the period covered by the forensic audit was not influenced by any specific person, act, or event. Among the questions Khama had asked was why the audit includes the last three years of the administration prior to 2018 instead of the whole period of his administration that began in 2008. Although Khama wants the audit team to investigate the Butterfly saga and expose who was behind the fabrication, Moswaane clarified that 'the forensic audit terms of reference do not mention any specifics or cases, deliberately so as that is not the focus of the forensic audit'.
Shortly after taking over the government in November last year, President Duma Boko appointed a company, Alvarez & Marsal Middle East Limited, to carry out a forensic audit of government entities, namely ministries, departments, state-owned entities, as well as regulatory and oversight institutions. The company will conduct up to 30 forensic audits, where it will, among others, evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of governance structures and practices within government ministries, departments, state-owned enterprises, and regulatory authorities.
Although Khama didn't name the perpetrators at Ntlo Ya Dikgosi, the indication is that he blatantly blames the duo being Masisi and Magosi, for the audit, which will cover part of his administration from 2008 to 2018. This publication contacted the Bangwato Kgosi for further clarification, but he did not respond to the questions that were sent to him.
