The annual Khawa Dune challenge held in the vast sand dunes attracted motorsport enthusiasts from across the country and beyond. This year's edition was organised by the Botswana Off Road Racing Championship (BORRC).
In the tough terrain of the dunes, Mamaloukos showcased sheer endurance and skill, tackling the steep dune climbs, sharp turns, and sandy stretches with remarkable control.
Tipped to be the next Ross Branch in the country, Mamaloukos dominated the entire race during the five laps as no one was in his sight. From the onset he had a comfortable lead up until the last seconds of the competition as he crossed the finish line all alone.
Spectators roared as he crossed the finish line, cementing his position as one of the most formidable riders in the local biking scene.
Second placed rider crossed the finishing line eight minutes later after Mamaloukos had completed his race. Euan Harmse, the second placed rider finished at a time of two hours 17 minutes and 26 seconds.
He was followed by Boineelo Rantao who finished five minutes later. Mamaloukos walked away with a prize money of P5, 000 while Harmse got P2, 500 and Rantao who finished third received P1, 500.
Reflecting on the completed Khawa Dune challenge, Cyro Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Moizuddin Ahmad responsible for BORRC said he was more than happy with how the challenge turned out.
“We had quite a successful event. We had over 67 competitors that included bikes and cars. And we had a good turnout, good event, no major accidents and for that it was a good start to privatize Khawa Dune Challenge,” Ahmad said.
As BORCC incessantly grows, Ahmad said he wishes that Khawa Dune challenge makes it to their calendar of events annually.
“With BORCC we have six events per year and we would like to continue having Khawa as one of those events because it is a very unique place. It has got dunes, thick sands, terrain is open, fast sections and competitors love that type of racing,” wished Ahmad.
Ahmad further said points from Khawa will be used to decide who the BORCC champion is at the end of the year as long as the event remains part of BORCC’s calendar of events.
