Running from April 1st to July 31st, the initiative is aimed at easing the burden for mothers and their newborns during the harsh winter months. The donation drive is part of First Capital Bank’s 2025 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) health focus, which seeks to support initiatives that improve the wellbeing of Batswana.
The bank donated P40,000 towards the procurement of much-needed items including newborn clothing, nappies, preemie blankets, hygiene supplies, and warm clothing. These essential supplies are intended to benefit infants, toddlers and mothers, many of whom face extended stays in the hospital during winter.
Diagnofirm Medical Laboratories also played a significant role, with its staff members personally contributing to the drive, reinforcing the spirit of community and shared responsibility.
Speaking at the handover, First Capital Bank representative, Otsile Nchingane remarked: “We recognise that hospitals like Princess Marina carry an enormous responsibility, especially during winter. Our support is a small gesture to help mothers and children feel seen, supported, and cared for when they need it most.”
Diagnofirm’s representative, Harriet Nkonjera, echoed the sentiment, noting the organisation’s longstanding commitment to community upliftment. “This initiative is rooted in something fundamental to our identity. Diagnofirm has always strived to be more than a healthcare service provider. We are a team of people who believe in empowering lives, uplifting communities, and forging partnerships that reach beyond the laboratory into the lives of Batswana,” she said.
Amongst the beneficiaries of the initiative was a mother caring for her 14-month-old baby battling retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer. “Cancer is an aggressive disease and the medication takes a toll on the baby, sometimes forcing you to stop working to take care of them. Losing your income makes it difficult to meet your baby’s needs. These donations may seem small, but to us who are here for long periods, this makes a world of difference,” she said.
The donation drive is a powerful reminder of the role that corporate and community partnerships can play in alleviating hardship and delivering hope where it is needed most. As winter continues to bite, the warmth offered by First Capital Bank and Diagnofirm’s gesture will surely be felt beyond the hospital walls.
