On Saturday evening, a couple of young and vibrant people saw it fit to partake in Angella’s Sip & Paint held at the Avani Gaborone Resort and Casino. That is where a number of the got to realise that within themselves, there are hidden, talented and creative artists with the host, Angella Mackennie's guidance. Even though at the beginning there was a lot of anxiety, uncertainty and excitement among some, after presenting their first art pieces, the participants got motivated after each explained the inspiration behind their master pieces and got thumbs up. Each minute turned into a golden moment for them as the event started getting fun. The Sip & Paint became more fun with some snacks and drinks coupled with more paintings as the participants became more confident and graduated from using a single paint to more paints creating breathtaking art pieces.
The more they painted, the much fun the event became. As it is a norm, no event can be complete without music. The audiences were treated to beautiful melodies whilst later on Fino Dambe also known as Fino Dee delivered a moving live performance. He also sang along the host Mackennie when the audiences also started singing along, whisking the night away. Even though there were a few glitches before the event including the delay that resulted in starting late, at the end of the day, the participants enjoyed their weekend. The organiser promised to do better in the upcoming events since the initial one was her first installment. In an interview with this publication, she said the event was more than just painting but an experience that brought people together for wellness, networking, and fun. Mackennie specialises in watercolour painting. She further explained that her aim was to guide guests through a relaxing, beginner-friendly art session. 'Art has always been a part of me. I was that child who was always doodling and dreaming in colour. My mother exposed me to artistic spaces at a young age, and being surrounded by creativity sparked something deep within me. That early encouragement and freedom to explore made art feel like home. I chose art because it heals me. Art is therapy for me. When I paint, I forget everything else. It is my peace, my passion, and my purpose all rolled into one. I believe we all have gifts, and this is mine, I chose to follow it,' she said confidently. Furthermore, she explained that people were often surprised that watercolour could be so expressive and delicate. She said many find it calming and relatable.
She added that she received a lot of positive feedback, especially from those who said her work brings them peace or reminds them of something meaningful hence her decision to host the event. Moreover, she explained that she sees herself hosting art wellness retreats, running community workshops, and having my artwork exhibited in spaces around the country and beyond in future. She also said she hopes to expand her brand and open an art studio/gallery in Botswana.
