Bagwasi, who trains at Drad Boxing Gym, has six wins, no draw, no loss, and a 50% knock-out (KO) rate. He goes into the 10 rounds match, organised by Aquila Promotions, after he registered a knockout (KO) win against another South African, Almighty Moyo, in March. Bagwasi has made a name for himself as a hard-hitter who goes for the jugular. After the knockout victory, Bagwasi sent a statement of intent in professional boxing in the region.

His opponent, Allen holds a record of eight wins, one draw, and one loss. Speaking to MmegiSport, Bagwasi said Allen does not like pressure and it is a weakness that he worked on.

“Preparations for the bout went according to plan, I am ready. It will be the first time I will be coming face-to-face with Allen but it does not change anything because winning the IBO Africa title will open doors for me,” said the South Paw boxer.

Meanwhile, another local boxer, Tefo Letshikgwane will be involved in a non-title match against South Africa’s undefeated Tiisetso Matikinga. Letshikgwane of Bond Boxing Gym, has a record of 11 wins and three losses in his 14 fights. He mentioned that he was ready for battle, following his last victory in October 2023.

“I was supposed to fight for the African Boxing Union title last year but due to financial reasons, the fight was called off,” he said.

Letshikgwane’s coach, Bond Ngubula said his boxer did not have enough time to train.

“Normally, it takes eight weeks to prepare for a fight. We took less than that. But we have the experience to handle a six rounds fight. We are ready, we have been doing everything we can to prepare for the fight. Tefo is up against an undefeated opponent,” Ngubula said.

Meanwhile, Professional Boxing Association of Botswana president, Seroba Binda said, like the last time when the nation was waiting for Letsile Tebogo to win the 200m Olympic gold medal, they are waiting for Bagwasi to win the IBO Africa title gold.

“If Bagwasi wins that belt, it will unlock opportunities for our local professional boxers because we have been invisible in that space. This is a huge opportunity for Bagwasi,” he said.
