Speaking at the signing ceremony, BUAN Vice Chancellor Professor Ketlhatlogile Mosepele described the agreement as a long-needed and powerful collaboration.

“This will be a great collaboration that we long needed,” he said, highlighting the significance of connecting academic institutions with local development.

Chairperson for the Ghanzi District Council, Thabiso Kebadile, welcomed the MoU, stating that it aligns with the government's vision to produce tangible and visible results.

He emphasised that every citizen must take responsibility for building the nation.

“Our education system for a long time has not developed to produce food, and the responsibility starts with BUAN,” he said.

Kebadile noted that Ghanzi is rich in both flora and fauna, yet opportunities to explore this potential have often been missed.

He expressed confidence that this partnership would help unlock new agricultural possibilities, especially in the production of leguminous crops.

“Can we as the economy find young people to produce food and provide them with skill, I strongly believe that with this partnership our RADP (Rural Area Development Programme) farms will be commercialised,” he said.

The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation, including student attachments at GDC facilities, community engagement, sharing of research and technology, and the deployment of BUAN researchers to assist in solving identified challenges within the district.

The partnership will span five years and is expected to bridge academic expertise with practical implementation for community impact.
