According to Ramotswa Police Station assistant commander, Assistant Superintendent James Moikwathai, they received the report from Security Systems personnel who had responded to an alert at the deceased’s residence on Thursday night.
“Upon arrival, the guards knocked (at her door) but received no response. They found the door unlocked and noticed blood stains which they followed until they led them to the woman’s bedroom,” explained Moikwathai.
“There, they discovered the deceased lying motionless with her hands and legs tied, and mouth covered, and reported the matter to the police,” he added.
The assistant station commander stated that on arrival, the police rushed the woman to Bamalete Lutheran Hospital, where she was certified dead on arrival.
Moikwathai confirmed that the deceased's body did not have any visible injuries, and the source of the blood stains remains unknown.
In a disturbing twist, the deceased was found with her 18-month-old child, who was alive and did not appear to had sustained any injuries.
Police have now turned their attention to the woman’s live-in domestic worker, believed to be a Zimbabwean national, who has since gone AWOL, or short for absent without leave.
Investigators are also looking for the deceased’s vehicle, which was not found at the scene and may have been stolen.
“We don’t yet know who is behind this crime or what the motive might be, whether it was a robbery gone wrong or something else entirely.
“Investigations are ongoing, and we are doing everything possible to track down the suspect or suspects,” Moikwathai stated.
He urged members of the public with any information that could assist in the case to contact the nearest police station immediately.
