Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, said the owner of the car was roused from sleep by his neighbours after discovering thieves pushing the vehicle out of the yard.

It was later found abandoned at Kumakwane village.

'The thieves drove away with the vehicle and we later discovered it abandoned in Kumakwane following a police chase after responding swiftly.

'We did not discover who the thieves were, we suspect that they realised the police chase and abandoned the vehicle in Kumakwane village,' he said.

Letsholathebe said the 45-year-old man has since recovered his vehicle and investigations into the matter are ongoing to locate the suspects who are still at large.

This incident comes barely a week after a Honda Fit was stolen whilst parked at Phindane Bar, Ledumadumane in the peri-urban area. The Honda Fit has not yet been recovered.

'We suspect these cases may be linked or part of a growing trend involving opportunistic thieves targeting parked cars, especially compact vehicles like Demios and Honda Fits, which are easier to steal,” Letsholathebe added.

The station head urged members of the public to be vigilant and avoid leaving their vehicles unattended in unsecured areas.

“We also encourage car owners to install anti-theft devices to help deter criminals,” he advised.
