The duo and others were allegedly entertaining themselves at a local liquor spot in Xhosa 2 when they had a misunderstanding that led to a fight.

Mahalapye Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku, said they received the report of the grievous bodily harm case around 3:35am.

He explained that one of the victims, a 22-year-old man from the same area, had sustained a fractured right hand whilst the other, 33, from Mokubatse ward in Mahalapye, was bruised as a result of the beating.

Ranku said they are currently being treated at Mahalapye Hospital.

'It is alleged that the men were involved in a misunderstanding and the suspect who is still at large attacked and beat the duo to a pulp with a blunt object.

'We have launched a probe to locate and arrest the suspect who is still on the run,' he added.

Ranku further raised a concern that fights that erupt during beer drinking remain a concern, especially amongst men.

He said such disputes mostly end up as murder cases because they have the habit of using offensive objects.

'We have been pleading with members of the public to learn to solve disputes peacefully but our efforts continue to fall upon deaf ears,' the station commander said.
