Thapong hosts nolstalgic show

The show features a broad mixture of local artists’ works, such as drawings, paintings, and sculptures, that examine Botswana’s complex, familiar, and past experiences. The show not only showcases a reflection of our past experiences but also offers viewers a chance to reminisce about how far the country has come in art. Held under the theme, Nostalgia, the exhibition, which is organised by Bagaka Ba Pele, offers a stage for both upcoming and seasoned visual artists to present their artistic reflections of Botswana’s cultural icons. There are 14 artists who showcasing their artworks.
One of the artists is Kalogo Khumoetsile Kejelepula, a passionate fine artist and professional designer whose work bridges emotional storytelling with bold visual expression. Through her work, she is rooted in cultural heritage and inspired by everyday human experiences. Her work also explores themes of identity and social awareness. Other artists that feature in the exhibition include Gomolemo Kgosimodimo, Ginnie Van Meester, Tshegofatso Bodika and the legendary Mabijo by Tebogo Motswetla, to name but just a few. The Mabijo cartoons have been providing unending entertainment to newspaper and magazine readers in Botswana for a long time. The exhibition, which officially opened for public viewing on May 16, will run until November 31.
According to the show’s founder and executive producer, Dr Kelemogile Ramasu, the exhibition is open to all and seeks to inspire greater recognition and appreciation for the figures that have significantly influenced the country’s identity. Ramasu also said the exhibition opening was a success as it attracted a sizeable crowd. “Many people came to the exhibition, and more artworks were bought in comparison to the previous shows. We also had more artists registering for the exhibition, and more have shown interest in entering the next ones,” he said.
