Orapa United have, for the first time, booked a place in the final four after clinching the DTCB Women's Championship Northern Block playoffs, whilst Makgabza also reached the finals for the second time with triumph in the Western Block last weekend. The block playoffs have reached the Southern Block with action featuring Gaborone United (GU), Jwaneng Galaxy, Royal Fighters, and BDF XI, starting this evening. The Southern Block is the birthplace for national champions, with previous winners Double Action and GU both from the block. As per the trend, spectators may be watching a potential national champion as the battle for honours nears the climax. The reigning champions, GU, are aware that they are the team to beat once more.
The Red Roses won the Gaborone City Region Football Association (GCFA) Division 1 with ease to book a spot in the playoffs. The team bagged the regional title with three games to spare and finished 13 points ahead of second-placed Double Action. The team plundered in 61 goals while conceding the least across all regions, with just three in the regional league. Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse would be looking for another individual accolade following a blistering goal-scoring record in the league. The forward has found the back of the net 19 times whilst assisting on 13 occasions, making a total of 29 goal contributions in the 12 games. Red Roses' closest competition may be Galaxy as the pair reignites their recent rivalry in the men's game. Under the tutelage of former Mares' coach, Gaolethoo 'Ronaldo' Nkutlwisang, Galaxy met expectations this season to win the Jwaneng Mine Southern Region League. The Galaxy Ladies have a lethal attack of the quartet in the Southern Block contention. Having found the back of the net on 135 occasions in just 18 games, fellow rivals should be worried.
The team has also been tight at the back, conceding just three times as they lost once and drew one game in the process. Galaxy will be making their first appearance in the block playoffs. BDF XI returns for the block playoffs for yet another season and will be hoping to go a step further this year. The team won the Kweneng Region league, dropping points on a single occasion. The loss was the only one in their 14-game season as the team finished eight points above second-placed Mexican Girls. This is a team that has one of the best defensive records and will hope their rear-guard comes in handy against goal-laden GU and Galaxy. From the Kgatleng Regional League, Royal Fighters are the dark horse in the four-team contest. The team had to do it the hard way as they needed a last-day draw against Cleft Rock to clinch the regional league title. The team finished last in the previous season's block playoffs and will be hoping for a much-improved showing. Action starts this evening as BDF XI take on Royal Fighters at the GU Stadium at 4pm before GU and Galaxy battle it out in a 6:30pm kick-off.
Galaxy will take on Royal Fighters on Saturday at 10am at the Lekidi East Grounds, while BDF XI and GU battle it out at the GU Stadium, also at 10am. On the final day on Sunday morning, Galaxy face BDF XI at the Lekidi West at 10am, as GU and Riyal Fighters face off at the GU Stadium at 10am.
