Ian Bafo Legobo appeared before the Mochudi Magistrate's Court on Monday following his arrest on Sunday. He is facing a charge of arson after he reportedly torched the Mmathubudukwane Police Station, which was constructed in 2019. The incident occurred on Friday night.

According to information gathered by The Monitor, Legobo allegedly cut through the station’s back fence to gain entry before setting the building on fire. The inferno destroyed the entire structure, including everything that was inside.

Botswana Police Service (BPS) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Near Bagali, confirmed Legobo’s arrest in a media release. He revealed that police tracking dogs were used to trace Legobo’s footprints, which led officers to his residence.

“Upon his arrest, the suspect was found in possession of substances believed to be dagga and methcathinone, commonly known as 'cat'. The drugs have since been taken to the police laboratory for weighing and testing,” Bagali stated.

Legobo has been remanded in custody until June 10, 2025, as investigations continue.
