According to No.13 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae, the incident occurred at around 8:50pm after the woman had just alighted from a combi.

It is reported the victim was walking towards the bars, where she intended to make a quick stop to purchase drinks on her way home.

'She said she was coming from Gaborone and decided to pass by Tsabong Bars to buy some drinks,' Lokae said.

'That’s when an unknown man suddenly attacked her. The suspect allegedly dragged her into a nearby bush, threatened her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her,' he added.

Lokae stated that during the attack, the man also robbed her of her mobile phone and ATM cards, then forced her to reveal the PINs before fleeing the scene.

The police chief confirmed that they have launched an investigation and are working to locate the suspect, who remains at large.

“We have launched a probe to locate the suspect. We are appealing to members of the public who may have any information to assist us in bringing him to justice,” he said.

The police have urged residents to exercise caution, especially when walking alone at night, and to report any suspicious individuals or activities in the area.
