Tati Nickle to hire 50 employees in three months

Speaking recently in a stakeholder meeting, Tataki/Niu Group Chief Operations Officer Lakasz Abramowicz said they have a great precise plan for retuning the mine to profitable operations in stages with a detailed plan for the next nine months.
“These activities include refurbishing existing and building new technical infrastructure onsite and in parallel building a world-class mining organisation,” he said.
Abramowicz stated that at NIU group that this strategic investment will not only restore operations but also inject fresh momentum into the economy of north-eastern part of Botswana.
He also mentioned that the aim is also to strengthen Botswana’s standing in the global critical – minerals arena through sustainable inclusive growth.
For his part, the North East District Council (NEDC) chairperson, Mbaakanyi Smarts, said the reopening of the mine will revitalise the economy under the guidance of new government.
He said their commitment remains firm and thus building an economy that offers Batswana life filled with happiness and fulfilment.
Smarts indicated that reopening of the mine is not about restarting operations but about rekindling opportunities, restoring livelihoods and bring hope to their communities in NEDC, Francistown and surrounding areas.
“We believe building an economy that reaches beyond numbers for the well-being of the people.
“It is about creating decent jobs, encouraging local enterprise and ensuring that the benefits and developments are felt by the families and youth who call this district home,” he said.
Smarts stated that through this reopening, there is a need to ensure that the employment opportunities are inclusive and long lasting and local businesses are meaningfully integrated into the supply chain.
Additionally, he said young people should also be empowered and trained to serve in this evolving industry.
Smarts indicated that their vision is for a mining industry that partners with the community were safety and sustainability are upheld and where the economy rewards contribute directly to education, health and infrastructure to their people.
The closure of Tati Nickel Mine Company resulted in the loss of over 700 direct jobs when it liquidated in 2016.
