The racing discipline would be last of three BMS activities to kick-off following the Botswana Off-Road Racing Championship (BORCC), a car-racing championship and the BMS National Off-Road Championship, the bike and quads championship earlier this year. However, this season opener has new twists as adrenaline enthusiasts will have to part with P20 as entry fee for the Motocross and Flat Track first two rounds. “The gate fees would help us to be able to maintain the track as it would go towards paying for hired machinery for fixing the track. It is more like the club running the event that has gate fees for that reason, track maintenance,” BMS vice president Rose Mamaloukos told MmegiSport.
The season opener comes ahead of the 2025 Motocross of African Nations (MXoAN) to be held in August. The BMS will have two more rounds to select a team from the May season opener.
Last year, Botswana sent a single biker in teenage sensation, Lourens Erasmus to the MXOAN in Morocco due to lack of funds.
Zimbabwe will host the 2024 MXOAN in the Donnybrook Track in Harare and a larger local representation is expected. Riders will begin their quest for national spots next weekend in what is expected to be a thrilling contest.
