The arrests were confirmed by Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe.
He explained that the suspects, who are aged between 24 and 42, allegedly robbed a 24-year-old man of his mobile phone and wallet at knife point around 8:45pm whilst he was walking home alone. “The victim was approached by the group driving a van. They stopped beside him, got out of the vehicle, and began harassing him.
“One of them took out a knife and threatened to stab him whilst demanding his belongings,” Letsholathebe said.
The senior police officer explained that despite the ordeal, the victim managed to positively identify one of the attackers, who is also a resident of Tsolamosese.
He stated that, thereafter, the victim immediately asked for help and reported the matter to the authorities.
Acting swiftly, Letsholathebe said police officers were able to trace and arrest all the five suspects the same night and the victim's stolen items were recovered during the arrests.
“The suspects are all residents of Tsolamosese and are currently in police custody. They are expected to appear before court today to face a single count of armed robbery,” he added.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
