Ramotswa Police Station commander, Superintendent James Moikwathai, confirmed to The Monitor that they are investigating the incident.
He said the child was inside the house with his three-year-old brother when the fire broke out but the younger sibling managed to escape unharmed before the flames engulfed the entire house.
'Their mother was outside the house at the time. She only noticed the fire after it had already spread throughout the house. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, but we currently suspect it could be due to an electrical fault.
'However, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire,' Moikwathai said.
He revealed that all items inside the house were destroyed and investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cost of damage.
