A joint operation executed by members of Provincial Organised Crime and Kimberley Crime Intelligence led to the arrest of the 43-year-old in May 2022. Following a week-long intelligence gathering and surveillance operation, the team executed the arrest with the assistance of agents who posed as hitmen. It was alleged then that she wanted the hitmen to kidnap and kill her husband and promised to pay them a substantial amount of money after the supposed hit. She was intercepted and arrested whilst negotiating with the ‘hitmen’.

After spending over two years in a Northern Cape jail, in September 2024, Leshiba finally entered a guilty plea for the offence.

This followed footage shown in court of her with undercover police officers, posing as hitmen, in which she was recorded ordering the murder of Tau.

According to information The Monitor gathered, the duo married sometime in September 2021. However, months later she wanted her husband dead so she could have all his money.

It is alleged that Tau only learnt of the murder plot after his wife was arrested. Sources indicate that Leshiba sought assistance to consult with hitmen, offering them money.

“The person would then go to the police to report the intentions. The police then disguised themselves as hitmen. They had many meetings and gathered much information before an arrest was eventually made,” a source on the case revealed.

It is alleged that Leshiba planned to have her husband kidnapped and forced to transfer all his money into an account whose card Leshiba held before killing him.

She was to then pay them from the funds after clearing all other accounts. Since 2022, Leshiba has made several unsuccessful attempts to get bail.

During an August 5, 2025 trial, The Monitor learnt a witness, one of the undercover police officers, testified about the video footage captured during their meetings.

After testifying, Leshiba’s lawyer didn't cross-examine the witness but opted to enter a plea.

The matter was then postponed to August 16 for a formal plea, but on that day, Leshiba and her lawyer, requested more time to complete the plea affidavit, pushing the hearing to September 6.

On that day, Leshiba pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy to commit murder.

Leshiba faced between seven and 25 years as potential time behind bars. She has thus far been behind bars for three years as her multiple bail application attempts were thwarted by the courts.
