Mopako Ranch Adventure Camp brings fun to Basarwa community

The event attracted a number of revellers from in and outside Kanaku. Organised by Kagiso Mopako together with his team, the Kanaku Horse Riding event brought happiness to the residents who had no source of entertainment apart from the existing drinking spots in the village and therefore contributing to excessive drinking amongst the community. For its first installment, the event attracted a number of tourists who were eager to enjoy a time away from home whilst also learning the Sesarwa culture. It got thumbs up from tourists who were mostly from Botswana and a few who came outside the country. The main event was an infusion of entertainment from different groups from the community and horse riding. Kanaku Traditional Group kick started the day's events with a beautiful traditional dance performance. A Namastap group, Huni-Kam, delivered a beautiful piece showcasing Young Basarwa's love story, starting from young men proposing to their spouses and the couple celebrating after the young woman finally accepts the proposal.

Kanaku Traditional Group also mesmerised the audience with tsutsube, a Sesarwa traditional dance and their performance showcased a healing process done in Sesarwa. Furthermore, Triple D Kwasakwasa Group also treated the audience to some good music. On the other side, the horse riding competition was the centre of attraction where many horse riders from different villages came and showcased their horse riding skills while others proved not to be the best riders but also boasted of how fast their horses were. Amongst the horses that stole the limelight was Never Sataane that was the most loved. However it disappointed its fans and did not win despite being popular. Other horses that stole the lime light were Summertime and Small Boy. However, there were many horses that did exceptionally well. During the event, traditional cuisine was catered for. People had the privilege to indulge in tasty dishes such as bogobe jwa lerotse, motogo, samp, beef stew, seswaa (pounded meat) and pap. The Mopako Adventure Camp seeks to foster a sense of community pride and unity, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the region.

The event also engaged local businesses, which also highlighted the diverse talents of the community but also serves as a powerful vehicle for cultural preservation and awareness. The event also offered a unique platform that combined the excitement of horse racing with the celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Basarwa. The Mopako Ranch Adventure Camp is founded by Kagiso Mopako, the brains behind the event and the owner of the ranch. His remarkable dedication and unwavering commitment to agriculture and community upliftment has made the Mopako Adventure Camp Horse Racing event possible. He hails from Ramotswa and has now assumed responsibility over the community that hosts his farm.
