While many of these talents have failed to get the break, some have continued to flourish. One of those is Coster Fx Tshoganyetso, a young talent from Maun who has weathered the storm and remained relevant to date. Coster Fx is multi-talented as he is not just a comedian but also an artist, producer, script-writer and editor. He told Arts&Culture that he started comedy when COVID-19 first hit in 2020 during lockdowns. He explained that since there was little to do due to restricted movements, he was bored. Together with his friend Junior Diphoro, they started shooting videos with a mobile phone. Diphoro is the young man who appears in the skits with a branch in his mouth.
He explained that they decided to do comical videos to pass time. “We fused with humour and the strong Maun accent just for our entertainment and that was it. I later posted the video that day on my social media page and to our surprise, we got a positive response and noticed that our followers were increasing. That inspired us to create additional content. Since then, we have remained committed to consistently producing engaging and meaningful material using martial arts in a comedic way to create something different. My music primarily leans into the Hip-Hop, Bokhete style,' he said. He further explained that he was drawn to the genre by the challenge and creativity in simplifying bokhete, blending it seamlessly with their homegrown accent and authentic sound. He also said a perfect example was his track ‘Insecurities,’ which he dropped on his birthday, April 4, 2025. He said the track resonated deeply, hitting half a million views in just three days. Speaking of what sets his skits and music apart was the fusion of humour with authentic life experiences, all expressed through the unique rhythm and tone.
He added that he strives to simplify complex ideas and emotions, using his home accent to make the comedy and music feel both personal and widely relatable. His goal is not only to entertain but also to spark reflection, even through laughter. Furthermore, he added that he released several tracks so far, each reflecting a different story or experience. While not every song has a music video yet, he said he prioritised creating visuals for projects that he felt carried a strong message or deserved a visual extension. He also said he believed the right visuals help the audience connect more deeply with the music, so he focused on quality over quantity when it came to video production. “I have been truly grateful for the way the public has received my work. The support and positive feedback have been both humbling and motivating. From streaming numbers to social media engagement, and especially the reaction to my recent release ‘Insecurities,’ which reached half a million views in just three days, proved to me that my music resonated with my clients,” he added. Moreover, the young man pointed out that they faced so many challenges in their line of work.
However, he pointed out the importance of balancing creativity with consistency, ensuring that each project meets both his standards and the expectations of his audience, saying the industry could be demanding. However, he said he saw those challenges as valuable lessons that pushed him to grow. Since starting that journey of creating funny videos and music, he said his talent has evolved significantly, not just in terms of creativity but also in understanding storytelling, timing, and audience connection. He explained that over time, he learned how to strike the right balance between humour and meaningful content. Coster Fx also emphasised that each project pushed him to step out of his comfort zone, allowing him to grow both as a comedian and as an artist. “I see my art reaching more people and creating a bigger impact in the near future. I want my music and funny videos to not only entertain but also inspire and connect with different audiences, both locally and around the world. Stay consistent, be yourself, block out negativity, and keep evolving,” he concluded.
