The Quarter 1 2025 Botswana Radio Insights Survey (BRIS) is a pioneering study of industry-wide radio listenership habits, station preferences, and content engagement in Botswana. Conducted throughout March 2025, the survey gathered valuable insights from broadcasters, advertisers, industry stakeholders, and the general public. The findings, which are now available, harness advanced digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide an unprecedented, data-driven perspective on the state of radio in Botswana. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, Mogasi Consultancy is redefining how industry insights are gathered, analysed, and applied, ensuring that the radio broadcasting industry has the most precise and actionable information at the fingertips. According to the findings, Duma FM is the go-to station for current affairs and discussion.

The station is the fairest of all when it comes to talk shows and news. The survey also revealed that The Rush show hosted by Kagiso ‘Fox’ Phatsimo, M.O.G. and Thato Selemogwe on Yarona FM is considered not only the best weekday radio show but also the top breakfast show, keeping audiences engaged in the early hours. Fox dominates both weekday and weekend’s best presenter categories, while RB2’s Sunday Ballads with Osi has won the hearts of many weekend listeners. On the other hand, The Climax with DJ Sway and LB takes the title of best afternoon drivetime show. The survey results celebrate the voices and shows that keep Botswana entertained, informed, and engaged. According to Eugine Batlokwa, PR Consultant at Mogasi Consultancy, Fox, affectionately known as the ‘Hood Goon,’ has an undeniable impact on local radio, which has earned him the crown of Botswana radio’s Most Valuable Presenter (MVP). He further pointed out that Fox’s versatility and connection with audiences make him a standout figure in Botswana’s radio scene. The survey also looked into favourite radio personalities across different time slots, revealing a strong listener attachment to engaging and charismatic hosts. Beyond audience favourites, the BRIS survey explored listener demographics, radio consumption habits, and content preferences.

The majority of respondents are young professionals, with the largest age group being 25-34 years. Out of the 244 unique respondents, most listeners tune in to the radio daily or several times a week, primarily while commuting in private vehicles. Talk shows, music, and news remain the biggest draws, with entertainment value and presenter appeal being major factors in station loyalty. The survey also asked respondents about their preferred content types, press freedom perceptions and the commemoration of the upcoming pride month. Other key insights covered brand engagement, mobile network preferences, and how listeners plan to spend on major holidays like the Easter long weekend, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day. Businesses, advertisers and individuals can access deeper insights into audience behaviour and spending patterns through the full report.

Mogasi Consultancy explained that the BRIS is the first of its kind and will be conducted quarterly to track trends and industry shifts. More than just data, this initiative is a celebration of the voices that shape Botswana’s airwaves—radio hosts who inform, entertain, and offer companionship through shared experiences. These unsung heroes and heroines connect with audiences using nothing but their voices, making every moment on-air unforgettable.
