Pedestrians injured in separate incidents

In an accident that occurred on Saturday at around 5:30am, the woman was hit by a car along Tshekotsheko Road opposite Shoprite located at the Old Mall. The station commander for Maun Police, Superintendent Joseph Lepodise, explained the victim sustained serious injuries and is currently in critical condition. 'She has been referred to Nyangwabgwe Referral Hospital (NRH) for further medical treatment. She was hit by a 29-year-old man of Senonnori Ward, Maun who was driving a Madza 3 vehicle and he is currently in custody for investigations,' he said.
'We have taken his blood tests to the laboratory for analysis to check if he was driving under the influence of alcohol or not.' Lepodise further said in another accident that occurred the same day at around 5:04pm, the police received a report from a 40-year-old man who was driving a Honda Fit. The caller alerted the police he had hit a boy with a car at Maun’s Mathiba Ward. 'He said whilst driving in between yards, a small boy jumped in front of the vehicle whilst trying to cross the road and he unfortunately hit him. 'The four-year-old boy was rushed to Letsholathebe hospital where doctors discovered he had sustained a fractured leg. He was also referred to NRH for further treatment,' the station commander said. He stated that the driver, who is a resident of Sedie Ward in Maun, was tested and 'we discovered that he was sober but he is in custody for investigations'.
Lepodise further revealed that they are likely to charge the little boy's mother with child negligence. Meanwhile, he called on both the motorists and pedestrians to be cautious and obey road signs when using the roads. The station chief is concerned by the rising numbers of accidents that involve pedestrians in his policing area.
