The national champions, Jwaneng Galaxy, on Sunday announced the death of Nfhandiso. He died at a tender age of 19 following a short illness. Nfhandiso was a two-time league champion with Galaxy and made his debut as a 17-year-old in 2023 but assumed a squad player role. He was also part of the Zebras’ Under-20 team that competed at the COSAFA Under-20 Championship played in Mozambique late 2024.
In paying his respect, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Tariq Babitseng, announced that football will honour the memory of Nfhandiso in all official matches under the BFA structures with the observation of a moment of silence before kick-off this weekend. “Perfect was a promising talent in Botswana football, having represented the country as part of the Botswana National U-20 men’s team. His dedication to the game and his potential made him a rising star in local football. His loss is a tremendous blow not only to Jwaneng Galaxy but to the entire football fraternity,” reads a statement from Babitseng.
Zebras and former Galaxy’s head coach, Morena Ramoreboli, said Nfhandiso possessed the potential of a dynamic right back. Ramoreboli said Nfhandiso’s dedication to his craft was admirable, and he always treated his seniors with respect. “I know he held Mr Moagi Sechele in high esteem as his mentor, and their close bond was evident to all who knew them. During his time in the hospital, I visited him and held him in my prayers, hoping for his swift recovery,” said Ramoreboli in a Facebook post.
He added that Nfhandiso will be remembered as a talented and hardworking footballer. Township Rollers also took to social media to say, “Rollers stands shoulder to shoulder with Jwaneng Galaxy and the Botswana football community in mourning this tragic loss of a young, talented footballer who had a promising future.”
