Narrating what transpired, Ghanzi Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Sello Seagateng, said the 31-year-old suspect, who is also the father of the victim's child, assaulted and later dragged the 36-year-old woman to his place, where he subsequently raped her.
'After realising the victim was injured, he looked for a taxi and dropped the victim at Ghanzi hospital, where the matter was later reported to the police. The suspect of the same ward was followed and arrested that fateful night and has been remanded in custody,' he said
Meanwhile, Seagateng said they had a two-day operation over the weekend targeting all offences and arrested a few people who were operating unlicensed shebeens.
'We have observed that there was mushrooming of unlicensed shebeens in our policing area. These shebeens concern us because they fuel fights and other violent crimes like rape, murder, and assault cases, to mention but a few,' Seagateng said.
