Mathekga ventures into cement crafts

The young man is basically making masterpieces by crafting cement mortar into wooden mottifs and rock mottifs. In an interview with Arts&Culture, he explained that he took inspiration from the Form Five art project he did for his finals. He said it was all about cement crafts where his theme was, ‘Upgrading Plastering and Painting.’ “I came up with this idea as you can all see in the pictures.

After school in 2018, I came to the industry learning basic plastering and painting as a labourer for my uncle. I had the opportunity to hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Quantity Surveying but due to personal reasons, I did not manage.. That is when my cement crafts journey continued and grew,” he said. Furthermore Mathekga explained that the public loves his art saying that they gave him the courage that was why he was still pursuing his artistic profession. He further stated that in the next two years, he wished his artwork could be understood by all people around. Apart from cement crafts, the young man also does artificial pavings.

He explained that they were related to rock art paving that falls under the craft. To aspiring artists, he advised them to feel free to come and learn. He said they could inbox him with the requirements.
