With aspirations to attend the prestigious Grammy Awards in the United States, Mpho Sebina sees this opportunity as a platform to elevate Botswana’s music industry and advocate for African representation in global music events. “I have reached out to our Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs and the Ministry of Sports and Arts, as this is a national agenda. Botswana music deserves a seat at such tables,” Mpho Sebina revealed, underscoring her efforts to secure funding for the venture.

She has also partnered with Moletsane Talent Management Agency to rally support from stakeholders. Mpho Sebina’s vision extends beyond personal accolades. She believes partnerships between the public and the private sector are crucial for the visibility and sustainability of African music. “The success of genres like Amapiano and Afrobeats shows the world is ready for African music. Botswana could benefit economically, in tourism, and in boosting national morale,” she explained.

Despite the challenges, Mpho Sebina remains optimistic. While she has received a flight ticket from a private entity, Voodoo Advertising Agency, government support has yet to come. “I’m hopeful, but time is running out,” she shared. Mpho Sebina views this venture as more than just a personal milestone. “The Grammys are about community and representation. There’s a need for greater diversity in their categories, and Botswana musicians have much to offer,” she said. With proper funding, Mpho Sebina plans to curate intimate live showcases featuring Botswana’s rich musical culture during Grammy Week in Los Angeles.

Her message to stakeholders is clear that investing in African artists to showcase their craft internationally is crucial for growth. “The quality of our music is undeniable; we just need to put ourselves out there more,” she shared. For Mpho Sebina, this is not just about attending the Grammys. It is about building networks, learning, and ensuring that one day, Botswana’s name will shine bright in the global music history.
