Taking place on February 14, the event is a bold departure from the traditional dinner dates and will combine cinematic magic with heartfelt music and symbolic activities to create a memorable evening. Jonas revealed that the concept of hosting an outdoor movie night has been on his mind for some time. “I’ve always had the idea, but the fear of ‘bringing the difference’ was weighing on me. It was only after sharing the idea with friends and receiving positive feedback that I decided it was now or never,” he explained.
The timing could not be more appropriate, with Valentine’s Day offering a perfect backdrop for an event centered on love and togetherness. The event will feature screenings of two highly emotive films, The Fault in Our Stars and Five Feet Apart. Jonas believes these films resonate with deep human emotions and affection. “The emotions that these movies carry touch you as a person, but also, the affection is heavenly. Watching them outdoors under the stars with your loved one adds a unique dimension to the experience,” he noted.
However, it’s not just about the movies. The event includes an array of activities designed to elevate the evening into something truly unforgettable. Couples can look forward to live saxophone and guitar performances, photo booths to capture the evening, and lantern-lighting activities as part of a symbolic “make a wish” tradition. “The song selection and live performances will set a mood that is both intimate and celebratory,” Jonas added. In addition to being a first-of-its-kind event, Movie Under the Stars is deeply rooted in community involvement. Jonas emphasised the local partnerships and talent that make the event possible. “We engaged local upcoming artists to grace the show, and all stakeholders are local Tswana people. This event offers diversity to the existing forms of entertainment for our community,” he stated. While the event is designed to foster a romantic and relaxed atmosphere, its execution has not come without challenges. For instance, Jonas mentioned that the team has been closely monitoring the weather conditions to ensure the event runs smoothly. “As with any event, challenges are inevitable. But these will be met and addresed to ensure professional growth,” he affirmed.
Affordability was also a key consideration in planning the event. Tickets priced at P200 per couple, can be purchased from agents, including KM Sales, and at the venue itself, Bush Corner Sip and Grill. “The pricing had to be something couples and anyone wishing to attend could afford,” Jonas explained. Ultimately, Jonas hopes that the success of this inaugural event will pave the way for more innovative experiences in the future. “The Movie Under the Stars theme is a unique concept that takes the customer experience to another level. It’s not something you come across every Valentine’s Day. The success of this first event will tell us the way forward,” he concluded.
