Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe said the incident occurred on Saturday night at around 10pm.
Letsholathebe said the victim who was driving from Gaborone said it was at around 10pm when she saw a woman who appeared to be carrying a baby hitchhiking in Metsimotlhabe at a bus stop opposite Saverite. She stopped to give her a lift.
'The victim told the woman she was going to Kopong and she said she was also going there. Whilst talking, two men approached them, requested a lift too and said the trio left for Kopong. Whilst on the way the woman who appeared to be carrying a baby stopped the car by Mmatseta turn-off telling her she was now heading towards that direction. The victim said she stopped for her but was shocked when the two men pounced on her in an attack while the woman remained seated. They started demanding money and mobile phones,' Letsholathebe said.
He said the victim tried to run away, but the duo managed to catch her and took her handbag, and mobile phone. The trio drove away with her car leaving her stranded in the bush.
'The victim was rescued by a combi driver who took her to Kopong police and she managed to report the matter. We have since launched a probe to locate the trio still at large and the stolen red Madza CX5. I'm pleading with members of the public to help us locate the stolen vehicle,' he said.
Letsholathebe has since updated this publication that the Madza CX5 has been located. The car was found abandoned at Gaborone West Industrial along Haile Selassie road Monday afternoon. The three suspects are still at large and Mogoditshane police are working around the clock to arrest them.
