Newly elected BOPEU leadership to prioritise member satisfaction

Following their union’s elective congress held at the Majestic Five Hotel in Palapye recently, which ushered in new office bearers, Gabobake told Mmegi that they will ensure that all the appropriate bargaining structures and legal instruments governing employment are in place and to the required standards.
BOPEU was in the past rocked by factional wars, which allegedly derailed the union’s progress and polarised its investment plans. The new leadership has its work cut out to restore trust from the membership and ensure BOPEU returns to its glory days. Gabobake said the congress, which had 450 delegates from the BOPEU membership, resolved to, amongst others, focus on improving members’ conditions of service and renewing the union’s financial performance and investments.
“In summary, we had a highly impactful and objective congress that established a clear direction through resolutions on key issues. These resolutions will be addressed by the newly elected National Office Bearers, including a focus on improving members' conditions of service and reviewing the union's financial performance and investments to achieve better results and service delivery in the medium to long term,” said Gabobake. “As the new leadership, we will focus on realigning our strategic shortcomings and directing our resources to the areas that will have the most significant impact on member satisfaction. We will ensure that all appropriate bargaining structures and legal instruments governing employment are in place to the required standards,” he added.
Furthermore, Gabobake said they will engage with the government to establish a clear roadmap for the long-overdue remodelling of State-Owned Enterprises, as this has negatively affected their members' employment conditions. Additionally, he stated that they must address the long-pending remuneration policies and review the pay structure for public officers.
Meanwhile, Gabobake who served as Treasurer General, was elected as the new president, replacing Masego Mogwera who did not contest. Gabobake defeated Mothusi Mojela, who had been serving as Mogwera’s deputy. Other National office bearers include Nzhi Moalosi, who will serve as First Deputy President (Collective Bargaining), Sethunya Angela Ruda (Second Deputy President, Gender and Human Rights), and Tshepo Phirie (Treasurer General). Those who will serve on the National Appeals Board are Tiiso Mpedi, Sebako Sebako, Yvonne Bobo Muzola, and Naledi Rollent Nfana. The Finance and Investment Committee members are Meshack Letlhare and Blondy Hule. The newly elected Board of Trustees of BOPEU are Sonny Kututa, Motlogelwa Keaja, Portia Kenosi, Mompati Mosarwa and Mbaki Kula.
