Research Coordinator Wanted for Okavango Delta

 

The BOTSWANA WILD BIRD TRUST (BWBT) is looking to employ a Research Coordinator who is to be based in Maun and will be required to travel regularly within the Okavango Delta and occasionally to neighboring countries for meetings, conferences and expeditions. It is expected that the candidate will spend roughly half of their time away from home conducting field work. This person is required to support the BWBT research department in fulfilling its science and research objectives in Botswana as mandated by its research permit. He or she must also be enthusiastic, technically minded and be adaptive and forward thinking in their approach.

Minimum requirements

MSc of PhD in Ecology

At least 10 years of experience as a wetland ecologist in Southern Africa, with a demonstrable strong interest in aquatic invertebrates

At least 5 years of work experience in the Okavango Delta

Strong GIS capabilities

Strong abilities in the handling, repair and maintenance of sensitive technical hardware such as hydrological and water quality sensors, drones and photogrammetric equipment

Rifle competency certification

Experienced in hydrological and climatological monitoring and modeling

Proficiency in macOS and Windows operating systems as well as the Google Suite of applications, Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, QGIS and statistical software

Strong storytelling abilities (photography, blogs, social media, etc)
