Dikoloti has been suspended by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) and lost party ticket last week despite winning the party primaries in the Goodhope-Mmathethe constituency. Dikoloti who was plotting a move back to the candidacy before President Mokgweetsi Masisi suspended him this week is currently contemplating his political future. After his removal Dikoloti is reportedly considering a lot of options amongst others running as an independent candidate or joining the opposition.
So far, the BPF is the only party which has confirmed that they are trying to lure the minister of health to their camp. This is despite the BPF having already launched former Mass Media boss Mogomotsi Kaboeyamodimo as the candidate in Goodhope-Mmathethe.
Reatile told the media this week that Dikoloti is amongst the people they are recruiting as they continue to welcome new members. Speaking of new members the party this week welcomed sports administrator cum politician Ookeditse Malesu, well-known polygamist Kemmonye Sekati and Moselewapula ward councillor Resego Thamage from the BDP. Malesu recently lost the BDP primaries in Gaborone Bonnington North where Anna Mokgethi emerged victorious. Malesu claims that after losing the BDP primaries he received calls from people in Block 7 and 6 in Gaborone telling him that he can’t be wasted therefore, should consider running as an independent. He said because the BPF saw his worth they ended up approaching him. Sekati on the other side said he left the BDP because he was denied the chance to stand for elections in Mahalapye. He said he will take some of his followers to the BPF because there are some people who are interested in his story and life. “I believe that as a magnet I will attract these people to the BPF,” he said.
Not so long ago, the BPF also welcomed Modiri Lucas who had lost the BDP primaries in Francistown South to Solly Reikeletseng. Lucas served as a nominated councillor from 2019 to 2024. Lucas will take on Wynter Mmolotsi of the Alliance for Progressives (AP) and Reikeletseng in the upcoming General Election under the BPF colours. Last month former Member of Parliament for Molepolole South, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli and retired Botswana Defence Force (BDF) commander, Lieutenant General Gaolathe Galebotswe officially joined Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) amongst others.
