Last Friday, a Guidance and Counselling teacher at Leshibitse Primary School discovered that one of the victims, a nine-year-old girl, was struggling to walk properly. After she questioned her about the discomfort, the girl disclosed she was sexually abused by her uncle, it has been reported. Teachers then reported the matter to the police and the victim’s little sister, aged six, was also questioned. It was disclosed the six-year-old was also allegedly being sexually abused by the same uncle earlier this year.

Dibete’s assistant police station commander, Assistant Superintendent Pearl Nkele, said they have since launched a probe to find and question the uncle about the minors’ allegations. “We suspect that he might have discovered that there were investigations ongoing and fled because he hasn't returned home ever since he left home on Friday morning, something that's unusual of him, according to the victims' mother, who is his elder sister. “Both minors were taken to Deborah Retief Memorial (DRM) Hospital to be examined by doctors and we have launched more investigations into the matter,” she said.
