BA ISAGO University president, Dr Ruramayi Tadu, announced during a recent meet and greet with the media that they will be the first institution in the country to be offer GBV programmes. Tadu said in the near future the University will be contributing knowledge in terms of the scourge.
“There are no GBV courses in Botswana, these are direct programmes which answer to the sustainable development goals (SDG),” he said. Tadu was quick to share that their experience in GBV at BA ISAGO University is very touching because last year they lost their best student in Landscape and Architecture as she was allegedly killed by her boyfriend. “President Mokgweetsi Masisi in his 2022 national address said Botswana was ranked in the top three of GBV. He was calling for partners who will play a role in ensuring that this is eradicated,” said Tadu.
“Our concept paper on GBV is centred on those two. GBV knows no boundaries, we can go and get counselling and guidance but with the centre for GBV we had to go beyond that with programme development.” Tadu said looking at the magnitude of the GBV in Botswana they couldn’t offer modules like other institutions outside the country do but had to offer it as a degree program. He said their journey of excellence and growth continues with the establishment of the Centre for GBV. Tadu added they are partnering with other institutions and government to ensure that the GBV is eliminated. “We are all witnesses to the violence which takes place in our society and BA ISAGO wants to contribute in a very small way but meaningful through the reduction of GBV, we are going to be offering programmes in GBV,” he added.
The Centre for GBV will be established alongside the Centre for Climate Change. Tadu pointed out that they are also excited to announce that they will also offer PHD programmes and are happy on the new trajectory. “We offer a diverse range of programmes at BA ISAGO. These are market driven programmes which include courses which are not offered anywhere else in the country except here at BA ISAGO,” he said. Tadu emphasised that BA ISAGO University has always been committed to excellence in education, research and community engagement. “As we look into the future our dedication to these core principles remains steadfast but we are also poised to embark on new initiatives and expand our impact both locally and internationally. “One of our primary goals is to continually enhance and expand our academic offerings to meet the evolving needs of our country, SADC and beyond,” he said.
BA ISAGO also announced that they will open its Centre for Distance Learning and that all of their curriculum will be accessible online for everyone in the country. “We are not going to take people out of their jobs but we are going to take education to their jobs,” he said.
Tadu thanked the media for supporting BA ISAGO in the past 22 years. BA ISAGO University’s academic programmes are designed to meet the labour market needs of Botswana’s economy in the 21st century.
