The sponsorship, which is valued at P53,350, covers tuition fees, professional body registration fees and examination fees to study the Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply awarded by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) from the UK.

The Miss Botswana 2024 was also given a congratulatory gift of P10,000 cash which brought the largesse to P63,350.

Speaking at the handover ceremony GUC director of academics, Dr Upenyu Chiparo pointed out that in pursuit of vision 2036 ‘Prosperity for all’, the institution has chosen to become a standing partner of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Development through awarding scholarships to youths in the sports and creative arts industries.

He said their inclination to support the community has been deliberately tilted towards investment in human capital development, especially young people because they believe that there is much potential in them. “This potential needs to be nurtured through skills development for the benefit of the entire community.

“We also believe an investment in a fellow individual is an investment in the whole community,” he said. Chiparo added that Botswana is one such country that value the nurturing of talents and the development of skills in the youth. Education is the key to socio-economic development and sustainable livelihoods.

A person must augment their talent with a profession such that at the time when the gift begins to decline one will be sustained by a profession. Gaothusi was further urged to take the sponsorship seriously indicating that pressure to push her social enrolment agenda shall always be there. “You will be called here and there because of this title you are holding. You need to create time for your studies, and you need to be committed. We are here as an institution to support you until you complete your studies,” Chiparo implored Miss Botswana 2024.
