GIS on Monday officially opened doors to its new Science and Technology Centre, a new primary school building, new pre-school and new facilities that include, Robotics, Science and Computer laboratories and as well new sports facilities to cost of P76million. GIS is one of the oldest private learning institutions in the country having been in operation since 1993.

The institution was absorbed in to the AdvTECH Group in 2015 and now aims to be the best in the continent with the recent developments. Speaking at the official ceremony, AdvTECH's head of special development projects-Africa, Willem van Zyl said the construction of the infrastructure echoes the school's area of focus that is science and technology. "We have invested a lot of money back in to the school, we want to make the school one of the best schools in Africa. We follow the IGCSE curriculum and our emphasis it is on technology and science. As you can see in our laboratories, there are drones, 3D printers and laser cutters. It is quite impressive when we see the learners using all the technology provided in our labs that are directed for experiments," he said.

van Zyl further said GIS in data driven and the use of data to determine learning passes in Botswana and the rest of Africa across all the AdvTECH institutions. "I think is it a well know fact that all of us are not studying at the same pace or at the same level. Therefore it is important for us to have data available so that we can make sure that every child is not left behind. If the data shows a gap and we will make sure we fill the gap," he said. For his part, AdvTECH international business development executive, Jaco Lotz said with new developments at the school GIS would be hoping to an improved learning experience and also academic results. Lotz said GIS has since 2019 been among top three schools in the AdvTECH Group in IGCSE results for students who have attained a pass to merit. In 2022 GIS achieved the highest number distinctions and Lotz said this could only be boost of confidence to the management and parents alike.

"We are confident that with its proven track record of success, GIS is not only the best school in Gaborone but probably of the best schools on the continent. On the top of their now well documents academic success, GIS tuition fees are competitive and affordable and with these stunning success over the years there is no surprise that the board approved P76million investments in 2021 to improve the facilities at GIS. These improvements have now been completed and indeed are spectacular," Lotz said.
