Befitting send-off for Dingake

The event was attended by dignitaries and citizens from diverse political backgrounds. At the event, speakers paid tribute to Dingake, highlighting his contributions to Botswana’s political landscape. BCP vice president, Taolo Lucas, described him as a veteran in politics and a trailblazer in the fight for democracy.
"Michael Kitso Dingake was a man of great integrity and passion for the well-being of the people of Botswana."He dedicated his life to serving his country and advocating for the rights of all citizens," Lucas told the gathering. Moreover, Justice Key Dingake fondly reminisced about his brother's (Michael) unyielding principles through a speech he wrote.
"Michael was a man of principle and courage. He always stood up for what he believed in, regardless of the consequences. His legacy will continue to inspire us all," read the speech from Justice Key Dingake. For her part, Dr Onalenna Selolwane of Emang Basadi, also commended Dingake for his dedication to gender equality and women's rights. "Michael recognised the importance of gender equality and made great efforts to support women's rights in Botswana. "His work has brought about important advancements in this field," said Selolwane.
BCP's secretary-general, Goretse Kekgonegile also hailed Dingake's unwavering commitment to the party and the nation, positioning it as a benchmark for all. According to Kekgonegile, Dingake's steadfast leadership inspired countless individuals to strive for excellence and serve their country diligently. "Dingake has been a great inspiration with his strong dedication to our party and country.
His leadership sets a good example for all of us to follow. He showed us that working hard and serving our country well is important. We thank him for his commitment and the way he leads by example," he added. Moreover, David Magang delved into Dingake's enduring legacy, emphasising his profound impact on others' lives. "Michael Kitso Dingake's legacy is not just limited to his own lifetime, it transcends generations and continues to inspire and shape future leaders. His principles of justice, integrity, and service to others have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. "We must strive to carry on his legacy and uphold the values he believed in so passionately," said Magang.
A representative from the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), Kavis Kario, acknowledged Dingake's instrumental role in shaping Botswana's political sphere. "Michael was both a formidable adversary and a revered leader, his integrity and leadership commanded respect from peers and adversaries alike," remarked Kario.
Meanwhile, Isaac Mabiletsa, a former Member of Parliament for Kgatleng East, unveiled a lesser-known facet of Dingake's life during his memorial address. Mabiletsa said Dingake's involvement as a freedom fighter for the ANC illuminated the depth of his commitment and sacrifice. "Dingake's role as a freedom fighter for the ANC showcased his unwavering commitment to justice and freedom. His dedication and sacrifice have left an indelible mark on Botswana's political landscape and society. We must never forget the legacy he has left behind." The political activist, writer, and founding president of the BCP was born on February 11, 1928 and died on April 7.
