Two Church members drown during baptism

When confirming the incident No.1 District Officer Commanding Senior Superintendent, Paul Molapisi said the incident took place yesterday (Wednesday) at around 10 in the morning. He also said the deceased 28-year-old man and woman aged 22 who are followers of Salvation church at Tati Siding fell and drowned in the Shashe River. Molapisi stated that on that fateful day, six Salvation Church members among them a 4-year-old child went to the Shashe River for baptism. He said that one of the six people who accompanied the deceased alerted the police about the incident. The Botswana Defence Force (BDF) scuba divers were also called in to retrieve the two bodies, he added. No.1 District Officer Commanding advised religious entities to exercise caution when baptizing their members. "People should bring a professional swimmer as a precaution to help in the eventuality event that someone falls in the deep waters," he advised. He advised everyone who wish to get into contact with water in the river, including societies, the general public and other entities, to bring along a professional swimmer. He said that if someone is able to swim, drowning incidents can be managed.
