The 22-year-old man of Block m02 Atteridgeville hostels arrived at the gate around 08:50hrs Saturday morning driving South African registered silver Toyota Cross, which he failed to account for when questioned by the police.

Dibete Police station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku said the suspect’s passport showed he entered the country at Tlokweng border post and was destined for Tanzania. “We do not know if he wanted to drive the stolen car or he was smuggling the car to Tanzania. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

“He will appear before Mahalapye Magistrate’s Court today (Monday) facing a single count of possession of goods suspected to be stolen outside the country,” he said. Meanwhile, Ranku revealed they are investigating another case in which a 39-year-old Zimbabwean woman was arrested at the barrier gate that morning after she was found in possession of 206 copper cable rolls. He said the suspect, who said she resides at Palapye Extension 1, was in a bus that was travelling from Serowe to Gaborone when she was caught in possession of copper cable rolls that she failed to account for.

“The suspect also failed to provide the police with her passport, we suspecting she might have gained entry into the country through ungazetted point of entry,” Ranku explained. “We suspect that she was in possession of stolen copper cables, because she failed to account for them when interrogated by the police. The suspect is likely to be arraigned for these two counts today before Mahalapye Magistrates Court.”
