Botala Energy plans solar manufacturing

In a commentary accompanying recent interim results, Botala directors said the firm had secured a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) licence for the plant on its existing Leupane Energy Hub and Industrial Park being developed in Serowe.
They said the SEZ licensing gives the planned manufacturing plant “significant taxation and tariff benefits”. Directors added the two companies are focussed on identifying potential partners and customers to rapidly grow the solar and energy business. Botala expects feedback soon on its application for an Environmental Impact Assessment for the Leupane Energy Hub and Industrial Park.
The application covers the solar panel manufacturing plant, staged development of a 700MW solar/gas hybrid plant, and further LNG facilities as well as a mineral beneficiation plant to annually process 450,000 tonnes of copper concentrates, amongst others.
Botala Energy is an Australian Securities Exchange and Botswana Stock Exchange-listed gas exploration and development firm which holds seven exploration licences in and around the Serowe area.
