Cop kills girlfriend, commits suicide

Botswana Police Service (BPS) spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube said the police constable was found hanging from a tree in the bush behind the police station early Sunday morning. The spokesperson added investigations into the matter were ongoing to establish what caused the fight between the couple that led to murder and suicide.
However, The Monitor has learnt that on that fateful night, the couple was with the young woman’s younger brother in the house, who was in the living room watching television but could not pick that there was a fight that led to the officer’s horrific acts. After committing the murder offence, the now-deceased police officer allegedly passed by the living room and instructed his girlfriend’s younger brother not to bother his sister as she was resting in their bedroom. Later that night when he wanted to use the restroom, the woman’s younger brother was shocked to see blood stains in front of the couple’s bedroom.
The young man got curious, knocked, and ended up opening the door only to find his sister lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds and a slashed throat, and he screamed for help. Police attended to the matter, and the woman was rushed to Kasane Primary Hospital where she was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors. Then, police started searching for the murderer, the police officer, who was later found hanging from a tree behind the airport police station.
